Summer 2012: Week 1 & 2

Off to a fun start with my Summer 2012 semester by taking Residential Design, Commercial Design, and an online Lighting Class.

Only two weeks in, the class has already been on 3 Field Trips.

First Residential Client: For two days we gathered at our teacher's house Holly and her husband Mark in High Point, NC to gather client interest, concerns, and desires for her and her husband interior space. Our next step was to gather measurements of each room, which I might add is definitely a two person task after getting whacked by the tape measure. After viewing each space, a was style was picked: Eclectic. Eclectic Style is a mixture of three or more styles in the space. The couples mixture was Traditional, Mid-Century Modern, Modern, and Classic.

Proximity Hotel: Located in Greensboro, NC. Recognized the "Greenest" Hotel in America. Both Proximity Hotel and Print Works Bistro attained the USGBC's highest rating, LEED Platinum.

Carolina Cardiology: In Commercial Design, our project is to completely design two buildings for the American Heart Association. We traveled to Carolina Cardiology located in Asheboro, NC. We visited this office to gather measurements and take a general look at how doctors offices are set up, laid out, and equipment required for each room. The rooms include a Stress Room, Echo Room, Nuclear Imaging Room, Exam Rooms, Doctors Offices, Lobby, Reception Area, File Room, ADA Restrooms.

Spring 2012 Color Trends

The HOT and TRENDY colors of Spring 2012. The striking blend of hot, neon colors with soft pastels. Stated that Yellow will be one of the key colors of the season. Being an aqua color lover my whole life, I'm starting to transition to other colors and palettes, yellow being a new favorite.

Margarita: Already sounds fun. The green palette is touching the neon side as well as the pastels. Green can be the main focal point as in the
picture to the right or act as subtle highlights to accent bolder colors or prints
.

Sodalite Blue
:
Calm, soothing, subtle, but definitely makes a statement. This is a perfect example of how designers and homeowners are using wall space as the POP of color while using earth tones as accessories to give that nice even balance.

Solar Power:
Yellow is back and making huge statements. Yellow being a key color of the season, the color is eye catching with painted walls, furniture, fabric, even down to the smallest accessories. Earth tones and Gray scales are paired up with yellow, so the fun, funky color is sure to POP!

Starfish
Driftwood
Bellflower

Multi-Color:
WOW! I've also notice that designers will combine several colors from around the color wheel to add an extra wow factor to an interior space.
